First Finger Foods

Melanie is an independent woman. She wasn't having any of this "feed me" stuff. She wanted to be in charge of her meals from the beginning of the baby food stage.

Chompin on some peas and noodles

And there was much rejoicing.

So what do you give a baby who has no teeth but wants to feed herself?

Fresh fruit: Make sure you choose a soft one
Peaches
Pears
Mango
banana
blueberries: probably her all-time fave right now
strawberries
grapes (cut up)

Steam or roast some veggies: The whole family eats them, too.
broccoli
squash
carrots
baked sweet potato fries
peas are great from the freezer; just zap them and you're good to go

Other Mel faves:
Mushrooms
pasta noodles
avocado
eggs: fried or scrambled
pancakes
cheese
meat: lunchmeat, ground meat, roasted meat

Not quite feed-yourself foods, but Mel goes crazy for them!
yogurt
cottage cheese
applesauce

I really cannot believe everything Melanie is able to eat without teeth. I would have never given Reed some of these things when he was her age (because you're a little careful with your first baby). But it's so awesome to not have to make pureed baby food. It's just one less step in my crazy day. My big girl is growing up!

Enjoy!
