Melanie - 2 Months

Happy Girl!

Height: 24.25 inches

Weight:  13 lb

Hair: Blonde

Eyes: Blue

Food: Exclusively breastfed and still loves eating. We are slowly getting better at this spitting up thing. Usually eats every 3 hours.

Sleep: Mel is still a great sleeper, but doesn't like going to bed at night. Once she's down, she'll get anywhere from 3-6 hours in a row. She started kicking her covers off in the middle of the night and she would get cold. Then she would wake up. We started putting a sleep sack on her so hopefully that keeps her warm enough to stay asleep. She still sleeps a lot during the day, too. That's awesome for me so I can get things done/play with Reed while he's up.

Temperament: Melanie is such a responsive baby. She LOVES smiling and cooing (way different than Reed, he would just stare at you, so serious). But when she's upset she gets this wicked lip pout. It'll tear your heart right out! Seriously, she is such a sweetie.

Smiley girl!
Pouty lip!!

Melanie loves:
-Eating
-Sleeping
-Being held by Mommy
-Reed's kisses
-Smiling
-"Talking"
-Riding in the car: puts her to sleep every time. At this age Reed would seriously scream in the car every time. They are so different!

Mel dislikes:

-Being burped
-Waiting to eat
-Right after feedings: getting better, but still not her favorite
-Evenings: does not like going to bed, she's a night owl like her Daddy

New adventures:
-Mel's first Christmas and New Years: we had three Christmases this year! Turner Christmas, Darling Christmas, and cousin Christmas.

Those Turner kids sure are cute!

Enjoying Christmas in Nana's lap

Hangin with the cousins

-Melanie met Uncle Jason and Ty for the first time: They live far, far away but we are so glad they could come for Christmas this year. We hope to see them much more frequently in the future.

With Uncle Jason!

Meeting Hannah the Hippo made by Uncle Ty

-First airplane ride: we flew out to Midland for a day trip to look at houses and, naturally, Mel came along. Reed stayed with his B.B. and grandpa, which was much more fun for him.

Mel is just the sweetest, happiest baby. We are so thankful for her and her brother.

So what does Reed REALLY think of his little sister?

He LOVES her!

And finally, here is the side-by-side monthly chair pic:

The Hunt for the House

Last Saturday Wes, Mel, and I took a quick trip out to Midland to look at houses. Wes had already taken a trip out there but I wasn't able to go. We tried Skype so I could see the homes for myself, but it was hard to get a feel for them. Wes did the best he could to describe things but I know it made him uneasy that wasn't actually there.

So after two failed offers on two houses, we felt the situation merited another trip. This time I would be there, with Mel of course. So we got the grandparents to watch Reed and we made a day trip.

Melanie was amazing. She slept almost the whole time. What a trooper!
Getting ready for the plane ride!

Daddy and daughter

She pretty much did this all day long.

The reason we are here: drill pads everywhere!

"Beautifully scenic" Midland, TX

Wes keeps reassuring me that it's "not so bad" if you stay "close to the loop."
He keeps forgetting I lived in Lubbock, America for 5 years.

Anyway, the trip was successful and we are looking forward to closing on it soon!

Enjoy!

Reed Update: 18 months

Our sweet Reed is a year and a half already. My how time flies!

Mommy and Reed on Christmas morning

Height:  34 inches

Weight:  24.5 lb

Hair: Blonde

Eyes: Blue

Food: I don't think we have tried many new foods, but Reed has a mouthful of teeth so he's eating more meats. The other day I broiled some steaks and I felt O.K. giving him some because he has all his molars now. Chew, chew, chew!! Favorite foods are noodles, blueberries, and dipping his food in things. We ate corn dogs one day and he refused to eat them without mustard on each piece. The kid is crazy for dipping sauces.

Sleep: Reed is still a great sleeper. Usually does 7:30pm-7:30am. I don't usually get him right when he wakes up because he is so happy laying and playing in his crib. I am so thankful for this. I have time to get myself together and take care of Melanie if she needs anything without having a screaming child in the background. Thank you Lord!!

Temperament: Reed is such an amazing child and a great big brother. He plays so well by himself 90% of the time if I need to have my attention on Melanie. Sometimes he will disappear to his room and be quiet for a while. I know exactly what I'll find when I go in there: all the books on the floor and Reed quietly "reading" them.

Happy boy!

Reed loves:
-Outside: oh the fits he throws when he wants to go outside and can't. W.O.W.
-Bubble Guppies
-His stuffed animals: Reed loves giving them hugs and kisses. His favorite is who we have named "Bear-bear" for lack of a better term. He has been with him since birth and is a great crib-mate.
Throwing a 'fit'
-Books: As stated above, he loves reading books after he has thrown them all on the floor.
-Airplanes: He hears them before we do and immediately points to the sky.
-Vehicles: Reed loves anything he can drive around from the vacuum to the laundry baskets. Needless to say, he got some actual cars and trucks that are meant to be driven around for Christmas.
New adventures:
=13 teeth! In addition to the 8 he already had he now has all four molars and one canine
=Walking backwards
=Blowing kisses and giving kisses
=Saying "Da-da"
=Climbing (and falling): Reed is finally big enough to climb onto the couch, and the coffee table.

=Copying Daddy: Reed loves to do things his Daddy is doing. When we took down the decorations, Reed had to help Wes with the tree.

Assessing the situation

=Christmas! We had such a fun Christmas celebrating with both families, and boy, did Reed get a lot of toys!
Reed got his very own chair! He LOVES this thing.
Well, he loves flipping it over and pushing it around the living room, but he sits in it, too.
A big step up from how he used to watch his favorite show...

Not as comfy as his own chair, but at least he got to hang with his cousin.

Some of the cars Reed got. Since he loves airplanes he got one of those, too.

Enjoy!
