My Hubby, the Handyman

Wes is very handy. He loves doing things himself and figuring out how things work. He has been faithfully changing our own oil for years, which is a big source of pride for him. There is a sense of accomplishment when you do things yourself, and you appreciate them so much more. Here are a few projects:

This was a BIG one. He replaced the shocks on his truck. This took a LOT of time and energy (and HUGE tools) to complete, but he DID IT!! I was so proud.

Another impressive project, putting gutters on our Houston house. He had help, but they did a great job.

Not really fixing something, but a very sweet project; painting Reed's room. He worked really hard and did all the work himself. He wouldn't let me help at all, for my safety.

It turned out much better than expected. What a sweet man!

And finally, the most impressive project, fence repair.

WOW! Look at that precision! The board is SO STRAIGHT! Secured with such finesse, it should be considered a WORK OF ART!!

Okay, so I added this because it took him 3 years to replace this board in the fence.

REALLY?!

Yes, really. Do you know Wes AT ALL!?

But it did get done...

I love how handy Wes is, especially because I tend to break things around the house. EXPENSIVE things. Dish washer, kitchen sink, my car, etc.

What's the latest project? the dryer

Somehow, it stopped drying. Not sure what I did, but it happened.

I guess I do a lot of laundry.

Anyway, my super-handy hubby knew he could fix it (even though he'd never fixed a dryer). Part of me was sure he'd figure out what was wrong and fix it, but I have to confess: part of me hoped it was done for so I could get a new one. I KNOW, I know, selfish. Anywho, if you've ever wondered what the innards of a dryer look like, here you go!

As you can see, he literally took the WHOLE THING apart. In his defense, it's sort of necessary if you want to reach the important stuff.

After he tried what he first thought of, he had to do some research. Here he is furiously researching dryers:

He looks so HAPPY doing this little thing for me. Don't you think?

Long story short, it sort of works now. He couldn't find anything wrong with it, but did clean out the vent.

My HERO!

The other project this week was repairing our pop up canopy. You know, the tailgating kind. This is the second one we've been through (because the legs keep getting bent by the wind) and Wes wasn't going down without a fight this time. (The first time we had it at the beach and left it there: no, not on the beach, we disposed of it properly in Florida). So we invested in a newer, bigger version, only to have it break again on it's maiden voyage. So handy hubby ordered spare parts (Shocker that they actually sell spare parts) and it cost us a grand total of $17 to fix it. Not bad for a $150 canopy. Needless to say, Wes was VERY happy this little project was completed. And just in time for race season, too! My only regret is not taking pictures. Grrr.

Enjoy!
